Credo sponsors Olympic sailing campaigner Peter McCoy
Credo is proud to have been the title sponsor of Peter McCoy since 2011. Peter is part of the RYA’s Olympic sailing squad, looking to follow in the footsteps of sailing legend Sir Ben Ainslie.
Our sponsorship will provide Peter with essential financial backing to support on-going training and development in his campaign to compete in the Finn class at future Olympics.
Peter, 19, from Emsworth in Hampshire, has sailed since the age of four and started racing in single-handed boats when he was twelve. Currently a student at Plymouth University, his campaign to complete at future Olympics gained important momentum last year when he was invited to train with the RYA's Olympic Development Squad at Weymouth and other venues across Europe. Since then Peter has posted impressive results in the class and Credo is excited to be a part of his progress.
"The Great Britain Finn squad is one of the strongest in world sailing and I know how much hard work it is going to take to break into it. I am very grateful to Credo for supporting me and for making it possible to get my campaign underway. Credo’s sponsorship plays a key role in enabling me to perform at my best."
The Finn sailing class
An Olympic sailing class since 1952, the Finn is sailed in more countries than any other single handed boat. It is a class which British sailors have recently dominated with Ian Percy's gold medal success in the 2000 Sydney games followed by Sir Ben Ainslie's three successive triumphs in Athens, Beijing and London.
The heavyweight single hander of the Olympics, the Finn is particularly demanding physically and requires a combination of boat handling skills and equipment preparation. On the water, the Finn class demands intelligent decision making combined with smart strategies and physical application to ensure success, qualities which are also demonstrated by Credo consultants.
Olympic sailing rules of one nation and therefore one competitor per class, together with our track record of success in the games, means that for British Finn sailors the toughest challenge is perhaps that of being selected.
Credo recognises the hard work, skill and mental toughness required by Peter to progress and wishes him every success in achieving his ambition.
